We’re constantly told that we need to live healthily, but it’s difficult to find the motivation to do so. I don’t know about you, but I live a busy life. The last thing I want to do after a day’s work is exercise. The temptation of sweets, chocolate and junk food is also almost impossible to resist. However, I do resist them for the most part, because I’m motivated to live a healthy lifestyle. I want you to feel the same way, so I’ve compiled a list of motivational tips to turn your health around.
Create A Long-Term Goal
The first thing you’re going to want to do is to create a long-term goal for yourself. This is something that will convince you to keep going even when you want to give up. Giving into temptations is much easier to do if you’ve got no reason to stay healthy. Whether it’s a big event in the future or simply wanting to live a long life, you need to have that goal in mind. Stick a reminder of it on your desk or a note in the house, just in case you lose sight of it.
Have Fun While You’re Doing It
We seem to have this idea that exercise and healthy foods are unpleasant. That couldn’t be any further from the truth! You’re allowed to have fun while you’re doing this, you know! Go out and play sports with your friends or do something else that really interests you. Similarly, eat the foods that sound appetising to you. You don’t have to feed yourself with horrible tasting things if you really don’t like them. I love to binge on fruit like grapes when I’m hungry as they’re just so tasty!
Seek Help And Reassurance
It’s very difficult to turn something around when you’re trying to do it on your own. For the most part, you’ll be OK, but you need that reassurance from others that you’re doing well. They’ll keep you on the straight and narrow and ensure that your progress is going smoothly. This is especially important when it comes to things like addictions where help is crucial. In fact, you might even want to seek help from this page ARCProject.org.uk if things are really tough. Professional assistance is sometimes the best solution.
Think About Others
Now, this is one that you need to be careful with. I’m mentioning it anyway, as it can be beneficial for many people. You need to think about what your current health situation is doing to those around you. For example, what would happen if your health suffered severely tomorrow as a result of your actions? Would your family be able to cope? They certainly would be in a distressed state for the rest of their lives. Don’t feel guilty about how you’ve managed your health so far; that part is gone! Instead, focus on the future and use this as a motivational reason to keep going.
Create A Plan And Stick To It
It’s much easier to turn your health around when you’ve got a plan in mind. This is a motivational strategy to force you to keep it up. By looking at your daily schedule, you can easily manage your requirements for each day. Failing to keep one of these around will tempt you to take more cheat days and eventually give up altogether. You can find plenty of plan templates online, or you could even enlist the help of a personal trainer to set one up for you.
Congratulate Yourself On Any Successes
In the case of someone like me, I always tend to focus on the negatives rather than the positives. I always think I could have done more, which isn’t always a good way to be when it comes to living healthily. However, I’ve trained myself to think differently over time. If you do anything positive on a day-by-day basis, you should be congratulating yourself for it. Sure, you only got a small amount of exercise this morning, but at least you got some! By congratulating yourself on small steps, you’re less likely to feel overwhelmed and give up.
Think About Your Future Plans
This tip somewhat ties in with the first tip that we mentioned in this article. We always think about the here and now without ever really considering the future. But, it’s an important consideration. The way we treat our bodies now will have a significant effect on our health and well-being later on. So, start thinking about the future. Do you want to someday have a family and own a big house? You need to take care of yourself to ensure it can happen.
Turning your health around takes time. There’s a temptation to rush it and get everything done quickly, but that’s not how it works. You need to be patient and give your body a chance to change and develop. Trying to force it might not only fail to achieve the desired results, but it could leave you with serious problems. Take your time and be happy that you’re making progress on a daily basis. Eventually, you’ll start to notice a big difference.
Reward Yourself From Time To Time
When I’ve had a particularly good workout, I like to reward myself. No, I don’t mean with horrible junk food or anything like that. Instead, I like to buy myself something that I’ve wanted for a while. It might be the latest video game or renting a film to watch on my television. Whatever it is; it can be a fun added motivational technique to help you keep going when things get tough. Don’t do it all the time, but remember that it’s there as a backup plan.
Let’s not pretend that we don’t love to show off when things are going well! I love doing it for certain. If you’ve lost weight, or you simply feel so much better about yourself, show off to your friends! They’ll be impressed, and you’ll feel fantastic about your efforts. There aren’t many better motivational reasons to keep up your healthy living than this.
