The first and main thing one should do is to take complete bed rest and must not take any heavy load on the back. The next solution is the heat therapy which I think is the best and efficient way in releasing the pain out of the body. Applying heat on the back reduces the symptoms of acute and sub-acute back pain. Cold therapy also works in some of the cases. Massage is also used for pain relief but we have limited evidence for that. Massage gives us relief only for a shorter period of time but in the case of chronic back pain, it fails. One can also do the exercises but the advice of the doctor must be taken otherwise the consequences would be adverse. In a case of chronic back, pain surgery is the best way of curing it. There are many procedures that are followed during the surgery in the treatment of the various conditions causing back pain and they are discectomies, spinal fusion, laminectomies, removal of tumors and vertebroplasties.
